James 5?
James 5
James 5:1(NIV)1Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you.
James 5:2 (NIV)2Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.
James 5:3 (NIV)3Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.
James 5:4 (NIV)4Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.
James 5:5 (NIV)5You have lived on earth in luxury and self–indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.
James 5:6 (NIV)6You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.
James 5:7(NIV)7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.
James 5:8 (NIV)8You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.
James 5:9 (NIV)9Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
James 5:10 (NIV)10Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
James 5:11 (NIV)11As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
James 5:12 (NIV)12Above all, my brothers, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your “Yes” be yes, and your “No,” no, or you will be condemned.
James 5:13(NIV)13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
James 5:14 (NIV)14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
James 5:15 (NIV)15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
James 5:16 (NIV)16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
James 5:17 (NIV)17Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.
James 5:18 (NIV)18Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
James 5:19 (NIV)19My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, James 5:20 (NIV)20remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
I'm a tired man... I have no need to be. I have no worries that are serious enough to really cause me loss of sleep. I have no responsibilities outside of my control. I have no exams for ages...
Anyway...
Who can serve two masters? either you serve one or the other, money or God... why would anyone worship the created not the creator? Why? because it's a quick fix of something pleasant... as opposed to an eternity of something words can't describe how beautiful!
Elijah eh?! Three years is a long old time to be praying for something... kinda puts me to shame... I guess to be honest it must put quite a few people to shame. How long does it take for you to give up on something? if it doesn't work , how quickly do you take to move on and find something else?
I have a very short attention span, that's why I can sometimes get a lot of work done very quickly. I know that if I don't get it done then and there, I may not get it done at all... Three years?
Often if it doesn't work out straight away I give up... sometimes I come back to it later... sometimes it gets resigned from my memory until I happen to stumble across it again at a later date. Unfortunately there are instances where I need to perservere and just get on with stuff... like tidying my room, revision, walking home... etc... Work is good in that respect because it'#s quite varied, and providing my timekeeping skills are up to scratch i can sometimes even have a clear desk!
... By no means am I any kind of theological scholar and have no intention of saying that my analysis of the passages I have commented on are the final word regarding these chapters... Please feel free to comment on what was said...
I have many things on my mind at the moment...
